Sundaram Tagore Gallery presents Ricardo Mazal: 2/20/10 - 3/25/10
Mexican-born artist Ricardo Mazal explores mortality and life in his visceral paintings. Moving between photography, digital technology and painting, he captures the passage of time. Blurred strokes o color sweep through his work in a flickering motion. In 2004, Mazal embarked on a trilogy examining the burial rituals
of three cultures and times periods. He began in Mexico at the Mayan tomb of The Red Queen then traveled to the Peace Forest cemetery, Odenwald, Germany. This new series of works marks Mazal’s journey from Germany’s forest tombs to the sky burials of Tibet’s holiest summit, Mount Lailash. Inspired by the vibrant prayer flags billowing in the wind, this series heralds the final installment of his trilogy.
